Housing with Supports & Community Home For Opportunity

Welcome to the Ontario Homes for Special Needs Association OHSNA! With over 25 years of dedicated community service, we have become a beacon of advocacy, collaboration, and support in the housing sector, striving to enhance the quality of life for individuals with special needs.

Our inspiring journey began in the 1970s when a group of passionate care providers from various residential homes recognized the need for a unified voice to address the unique challenges faced by the individuals they served. This collective effort laid the foundation for OHSNA, paving the way for meaningful change and progress in our communities.

Our Timeline

1970s

The seeds were planted as dedicated home operators formed two distinct associations: the Homes for Special Care (HSC) and the Domiciliary Hostel contracts. Their goal was to create a platform for discussion on crucial topics like funding, regulations, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

1980s-1990s

Both associations established regional groups that facilitated seamless communication with a central board, fostering strong connections among members, local authorities, and provincial ministries. This collaboration ensured that the voices of home operators and those they support were heard in vital conversations.

2000

After years of successful partnership, Homes for Special Care and Domiciliary Hostel merged. This significant milestone marked a new chapter in our history, emphasizing our commitment to providing exceptional services to clients.
