Community Homes For Opportunity

Over recent years, Homes for Special Care (HSC) has evolved into Community Home For Opportunity (CHO), which focuses on person-centred support that addresses each tenant’s unique and changing needs. The recovery-oriented approach encourages tenants to enhance their daily living quality, personal growth, and life skills through various activities and programs.

The CHO program is a supportive housing initiative designed for individuals experiencing serious mental illness. Its primary objective is to assist participants in achieving and maintaining stability through a combination of suitable living arrangements and comprehensive support services. CHO creates opportunities for personal growth and development, enhancing residents quality of life through a variety of activities and programs aimed at improving life skills.

This program may be offered in a home-like environment where individuals can develop essential life skills, including daily living skills, according to their preferences and goals. More structured programs are available through community-based agencies, which provide activities designed to build a variety of skills and increase opportunities for social connection. Financial Trust services are also available to all residents, promoting learning in managing personal finances through a monthly allotment for spending. The ultimate aim of the CHO program is to support individuals in realizing their recovery potential, encouraging them to take on increased responsibility for their lives and paving the way toward more independent living.

Every person has the right to quality, safe, and affordable housing along with support services that empower them to live as independently as possible and thrive in their community. We believe that a supportive environment enhances individual quality of life, dignity, skills, and sense of worth. We embrace the uniqueness of each participant and adhere to the principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
